Accelerated Reading

Nativity BVM Elementary uses the Reading Renaissance program (including Accelerated Reader) as an integral part of its Reading curriculum. Research has shown that this program has a tremendous impact on reading achievement of students. Several of our teachers and classes have achieved Model and Master Classroom Certification through the School Renaissance Institute. In this program, students are tested throughout the year on the Star Reading Assessment to determine a proximal "Reading Zone." Based on the results of this test, students are assigned a reading zone, which is realistic but challenging. Periodic incentives are given to reward students for meeting their goals in reading.
